This microlearning video shows how small kitchen mistakes can lead to big food safety issues.
Problem & Solution
Growing up in the U.S., I developed a strong awareness of germ safety, especially when it came to handling raw meat. But after moving to Spain, I noticed that the same food safety practices weren’t as emphasized. From butchers using the same gloves to touch payment devices, to my own husband questioning the need for such precautions, I realized that many people simply weren’t taught the risks of cross-contamination.
To address this gap in awareness, I created a light, scenario-based microlearning video that teaches safe meat handling through everyday kitchen interactions. The goal is to make food safety approachable, engaging, and easy to remember for anyone who prepares food at home.
My Process
This was the second microlearning video I created using Vyond. After how much I enjoyed building my first project (How to Speak English When You're Alone), I was eager to create another. This time I decided to tackle a topic I’ve always been mindful of: raw meat safety.
I began by brainstorming scenarios in the kitchen, then created an action map to focus on real-world actions people should take to avoid cross-contamination. I chose to highlight the simplest, most commonly overlooked safety practices, especially ones I’ve seen firsthand while living in Spain.
From there, I built a visual style guide to ensure consistency and maintain an engaging look and feel. I find this part of the design process both visually satisfying and incredibly helpful as a reference point throughout development.
After the style guide was complete, I developed a text-based storyboard to organize the script, visuals, and tone, aiming for something humorous yet educational.
Once my plan was in place, I moved into Vyond and focused heavily on smooth character animation. This video was more challenging than my first because it involved more complex interactions between characters, so I worked carefully to make transitions feel natural.
For the voiceover, I used Eleven Labs to generate a conversation between the two characters. To enhance the tone, I selected background music and then brought everything into Adobe Audition to duck the music under the dialogue for clarity.
Finally, I imported the completed video into Articulate Storyline to add closed captions and ensure accessibility for all viewers.
Challenges & Lessons Learned
One of the main challenges in this project was getting the character animations to flow smoothly. Since this video involved more complex interactions between characters, I had to spend extra time refining transitions to prevent jumpy or unnatural movements between actions and scenes.
Throughout the process, I gained much more experience with both Vyond and Adobe Audition. I learned how to better manage scene continuity, time actions more precisely, and use audio tools like ducking to balance music with voiceover.
Overall, I was impressed with how simple it is to create professional-looking animations in Vyond. it’s a powerful tool that I really enjoyed working with and plan to continue using in future projects.
